The 6:15pm timeslot unfolded as old foes Meatworks FC squared off against Racing Guantanamo. In the Women’s match clinical finishing by Racing Guantanamo amongst a flurry of early goals saw them pull ahead 4-0 at the half time break. Maddie Chandler once against showed her class with 2 of the early goals. Rosie Portbury has also made a strong start to the season with 2 of her own. However a strong defensive presence in the second half by Meatworks FC ensured that the full time score would remain at 4-0. The dominant win ensuring that Racing Guantanamo maintain their undefeated start to the season and more importantly moves them to the top of the league table.
The Men’s match was as close as they come. Table leaders Meatworks FC looking to continue a good start to the 2015 season would have been confident coming into the match. Chances for both teams came in the first half. Scores were level at half time. An early goal in the second half for Meatworks came via a Wylie Scott cross to an Alex Irving shot on goal. The ball looked to have been well saved by the Racing Guantanamo keeper only to take a deflection and roll across the line. Shortly after Racing G had an opportunity to level to scores when a penalty was awarded against Meatworks Left Back Jered Seivenpiper, also earning him a yellow card for his efforts. Racing G’s Jacob Seong stepped up to take the penalty but narrowly pushed the shot wide. Late in the second half Racing Guantanamo’s Dom Hill would score the equaliser with a searing run, covering half the pitch and beating several of the Meatworks backline, Dom turned inward onto his right foot and slotted home a powerful strike from outside the 18 yard box. The game would finish 1-1.
The women’s late game was a bottom of the table clash between Broome City and Pearlers. A game characterised by the sheer volume of scoring opportunities, however the end score would read a modest 3-2 victory to Broome City. Referee Adam Wooldridge commenting that either team could have finished with 6 goals such was the attacking prowess of both teams. It was not to be however, as Broome City had edged ahead by the full time whistle. The result would see Broome City Secure their first win of the 2015 BLiga season. Off the back of a draw against ladder leaders Racing Guantanamo last week, City will be feeling optimistic about the 2015 season.
The Broome City Vs Pearlers Men’s match finished Round 3. A rampant Pearlers outfit, led by Sean Minouge who bagged 4 goals, dismantling a fragile Broome City. The end result perhaps didn’t reflect the quality of the match. A respectable 3-1 halftime score gave Broome City a chance to catch up if they could put together a strong second half, however some errors from City ultimately cost them with the final score finishing at 8-1. The result will put Pearlers season back on track and in the hunt for the BLiga title, with only 1 point separating Pearlers from Meatworks FC at the top of the table after 3 rounds.
