Racing Guantanamo’s Wade Wungudin picks out a pass against Pearlers.

The 2015 BLiga started with a bang as competition perennials Racing G faced off with Pearlers in the opening fixtures. In the men’s grade, Pearlers raced out to a 3 goal lead before the orange G bangers reigned the score back to 4-2 by the break. Pearlers held the lead through a cagey second half to win the game 4-3. Not only did the result gave Pealers their first win for the season – it also meant Racing G suffered their first defeat this year.

In the corresponding women’s fixture, Pearlers battled hard for their 3-2 half time lead. Racing G newcomer Maddie Chandler (pictured in next week’s Broome Advertiser) turned the result with 4 goals by the game’s end. Racing G won 5-3 and continue undefeated this season.

Forget cold, rainy nights in Stoke – the ‘really early dinner or rumbly stomach’  7.45 time slot is the ultimate test of a footballing side’s quality. Following Wednesday’s late clash, both Meatworks FC and Broome City can stand tall.

Meatwork’s Captain Ali Hiscocks lead from the front in the Women’s game – bagging a double to seal a 3-2 win for her side.

In the Men’s grade, 2014 champions Meatworks began their title defence with a comfortable 5-1 win over a depleted Broome City. Selfish Will Nolan completed a controversial hat trick by converting a late penalty – denying Meatworks’ designated penalty taker, Alex Irving, his hat trick. Whether Nolan is looking to intrude on Irving’s other role of Meatworks’ fire warden is yet to be seen.
